The Presidency has refuted claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dismissed the Ministers of Defence and Power, described the report as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, condemned the report published by a platform identified as “Phoenix Browser,” labeling it as reckless propaganda.
“The report titled ‘Tinubu sacks Ministers of Defence and Power’ is completely false, devoid of any factual basis, and should be disregarded in its entirety,” Onanuga stated.
He emphasized that the most recent cabinet reshuffle occurred in October 2024, affecting the Ministries of Women’s Affairs, Tourism, Education, Youth Development, and State for Housing and Urban Development. Ten ministers were reassigned, and seven nominees were presented for Senate confirmation at the time — none of which involved the Defence or Power Ministries.
Onanuga urged Nigerians to rely solely on official government communication channels and credible news platforms for verified information.
“Freedom of speech does not equate to freedom to misinform. Press freedom should not be a license for concocting baseless narratives,” he cautioned.
He further called on security agencies to clamp down on websites and platforms that promote fake news and mislead the public.
“Such licentiousness must be criminalized,” the presidential aide concluded.
