The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 4,741 Inspectors following the recently concluded nationwide board interview for serving Police Inspectors across the country. Of the number, 4,708 were promoted to the rank of unconfirmed Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP), while 33 were elevated to the position of Senior Inspectors.
In addition, the Commission approved the promotion of 38 Specialist Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP) to Superintendents of Police (SP), and 29 Specialist Superintendents to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP).
These decisions were part of the highlights of the PSC’s Plenary Meeting, which ended in Abuja on Monday, July 21, 2025.
Earlier during the meeting, the Commission had considered and approved the promotion of 12 Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police, 16 Deputy Commissioners to substantive Commissioners of Police, and 28 Assistant Commissioners to Deputy Commissioners.
The Plenary was presided over by the Chairman of the Commission, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Hashimu Argungu. It had in attendance Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (rtd), representing the Judiciary; DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), fdc, representing the Police; and Hon. Justice Christine Ladi Dabup (rtd), former High Court Judge.
Other members present included Abdulfatah Mohammed, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, and the Secretary to the Commission.
Some of the newly promoted Inspectors included Rabiu Ibrahim, Izang Nyam, Nannim James, Chinelo Obinuku, Bariminas Auyatiya, Sabi’u Umar, Lawan Haruna, Opurum Patrick, Agbo James, and Georgewill Onwubiko, among others.
Chairman Argungu charged the newly promoted officers to exhibit unwavering nationalism, zeal, and a strong commitment to public service in their day-to-day interaction with the public. He reminded them of their critical role as “the friend next door,” urged them to always live up to public expectations.
He assured that the Commission remained committed to championing improved conditions of service for police personnel nationwide.
