The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of one Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), two Assistant Inspectors-General (AIGs), and 26,119 Inspectors to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police II (ASP II).
The decision was taken at the Commission’s 3rd Plenary Meeting held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, under the chairmanship of DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd).
According to a statement issued by the Commission, Assistant Inspector-General of Police Funsho Adegboye,was promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police. Before his elevation, he served as AIG in charge of the Police Mobile Force (PMF) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Adegboye has built a distinguished career in the Nigeria Police Force, serving in key departments such as Operations, Training, and Administration. He has held strategic positions including Divisional Police Officer, Area Commander in Ijero and Ile-Ife, Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations in Ondo State, and Commissioner of Police in Edo State, the Homicide Section of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, and the Force Intelligence Department. He has also participated in United Nations peacekeeping missions in Kosovo, Liberia, Timor, and Somalia.
In the same promotion exercise, Commissioners of Police Danjuma Aboki and Dansabo Idi were elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police after successfully undergoing written examinations and oral interviews.
Aboki was until his promotion the Commissioner of Police in Imo State Police Command. Dansabo Idi, on the other hand, served as Acting AIG in charge of Research and Planning at the Force Headquarters, Abuja. His career spans several operational and administrative roles across Kebbi, Kaduna, Lagos, and Abuja, including Divisional Police Officer, Officer-in-Charge of the Criminal Investigation Branch, Area Commander, Commander of the 63 Police Mobile Force, Ikorodu, Deputy Commissioner of Operations for Zone 1, Lagos, Commandant of the Police College, Kaduna, and Commissioner of Police, Investment, Force Headquarters.
The Commission also approved the promotion of 26,119 Inspectors to the rank of ASP II following their performance in the recently concluded Departmental Selection Board Examination.
Describing the exercise as a reflection of its commitment to professionalism and career progression, the PSC stated that the promotions were strictly based on merit, competence, and transparency.
While congratulating the newly promoted officers, the Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), reaffirmed the Commission’s dedication to fairness and best practices in personnel management.
“These promotions are a recognition of hard work, dedication, and competence. They should be seen as a call to greater service, higher responsibility, and renewed commitment to the security of our nation,” he said.
The Chairman also commended the PSC Standing Committee on Nigeria Police Force Matters, led by DIG (Dr.) Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), and other board members for their diligence and thoroughness during the examination and interview processes.
The PSC reiterated its resolve to continue strengthening the Nigeria Police Force through effective human resource management, aimed at building a professional, efficient, and service-driven institution capable of meeting the nation’s security challenges.
