The Police Service Commission (PSC) has promoted seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to the rank of Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs), charging them to uphold professionalism and strengthen leadership within the Nigeria Police Force.
The promotions were announced following a rigorous selection process conducted at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, which included written examinations and oral interviews. According to the PSC, the exercise was based on merit, seniority, service record, and performance.
The newly promoted DIGs are:
Zachariah Fera Achinyan, fdc – formerly AIG, Zone 4, Makurdi
Zango Ibrahim Baba – formerly AIG, Department of Logistics and Supply
Isyaku Mohammed – formerly AIG, Armament, Force Headquarters, Abuja
Margaret Agebe Ochalla – formerly AIG, FCID Annex, Lagos
Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, mni – formerly AIG, Police Accounts and Budget, Force Headquarters, Abuja
Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, fdc – formerly AIG, Zone 15, Maiduguri
Umar Shehu Nadada, mni – formerly AIG, Zone 14, Katsina
The Commission explained that the promotions were necessary to fill vacancies created by the retirement of eight DIGs who previously occupied key strategic offices in the police hierarchy.
The development also followed the recent elevation of Fayoade Adegoke to the substantive rank of DIG, which enabled him to join the Force Management Team.
Congratulating the newly promoted officers, PSC Chairman Hashimu Salihu Argungu (Rtd) urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and commitment to national security. He also encouraged them to maintain a cordial and productive working relationship with the Commission to ensure continued growth and reforms within the police force.
Members of the PSC Board who participated as examiners during the promotion exercise included Paul Adamu Galumje, JSC (Rtd); Taiwo Lakanu, DIG (Rtd) and Chairman of the PSC Standing Committee on Police Matters; as well as Onyemuche Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission.
The PSC noted that the promotions form part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the leadership structure of the Nigeria Police Force and enhance its capacity to address evolving security challenges across the country.
