In a decisive move to entrench merit and integrity in police promotions, the Police Service Commission (PSC) on Thursday, September 18, 2025, subjected more than 400 senior Police Officers across the Federation to promotion examinations.
Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, who announced the exercise in a statement, said 56 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) were recommended for elevation to Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), while 451 Superintendents of Police (SPs) were considered for promotion to Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs).
The candidates sat for a written examination presided over by Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, Commissioner representing the Judiciary, and DIG Taiwo Lekanu (Rtd), Commissioner representing the Police and Chairman of the PSC Standing Committee on Police Affairs.
The Commission stressed that promotion examinations will now serve as a mandatory requirement for career progression in the Nigeria Police Force to ensure officers are adequately prepared for the demands of modern-day policing in line with global best practices.
Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) are expected to take their turn on Friday, September 19, 2025.
PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd), reaffirmed the Commission’s resolve to build a modern, dynamic Police Force capable of protecting lives and property and combating crime.
He urged Nigerians to continue to support the Police as they rededicate themselves to the service of the nation.
