The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) Thursday Abuja held a one-day training workshop for pension correspondents and online editors, aimed at enhancing journalists’ understanding of the Directorate’s mandate, operations, and strategic plans.
In her opening remarks, Executive Secretary of PTAD, Tolulope Odunaiya, welcomed the media practitioners and underscored the importance of accurate reporting in fostering transparency and public trust in pension administration. She highlighted the Directorate’s ongoing efforts to ensure timely and efficient pension payments under the Defined Benefits Scheme and stressed the critical role of the media in disseminating factual information.
The workshop featured capacity-building lectures delivered by top management staff of PTAD, who walked journalists through the operational structure of the Directorate, its legal mandate, and its future plans to improve pension management in Nigeria.
Participants were also briefed on key challenges and milestones in the administration of pension funds, providing them with the context necessary for informed and accurate reporting.
Odunaiya emphasized that the training was designed not only to update journalists on PTAD’s activities but also to foster stronger collaboration between the media and the Directorate, correct misrepresentations, and enhance public awareness of pensioners’ welfare.
The training was described as an interactive session, encouraging participants to ask questions, clarify misconceptions, and engage with PTAD officials on best practices for reporting on sensitive pension matters.
The Directorate affirmed its commitment to maintaining an open channel with the media as part of its broader strategy to ensure transparency, accountability, and effective pension administration across Nigeria.
