The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has pledged stronger collaboration with the media, particularly online platforms, to intensify reforms aimed at sanitising Nigeria’s pension system.
Executive Secretary of PTAD, Tolulope Odunaiya, made the commitment on Tuesday while receiving members of the Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE) in her office in Abuja. The visit formed part of the agency’s efforts to raise public awareness about its reform initiatives and ensure retirees’ welfare is protected.
Speaking during the meeting, ACOE Chairman, ’Sola Akingboye, commended PTAD for introducing measures to curb systemic corruption in the pension sector and ensure prompt payment of entitlements. He praised the agency’s “I Am Alive Confirmation (IAAC)” solution, describing it as a cost-saving and pensioner-friendly initiative that has eliminated the need for physical verification.
“These accomplishments, along with other initiatives, reflect commendable leadership since you assumed office less than ten months ago,” Akingboye said, pledging ACOE’s readiness to use its platforms to promote PTAD’s reforms.
In her remarks, Odunaiya lauded the contributions of the media, particularly the online space, in shaping public understanding of government policies. “The media is a champion of clarity. Many people may not fully understand what is being communicated, but your role in shedding light on complex issues is invaluable,” she said.
She expressed PTAD’s openness to sustained media collaboration, noted that online platforms could help amplify its reform agenda to audiences within and outside Nigeria.
