The MD/CEO, Rural Electrification Agency REA,Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad has said the agency will continue to expand its impact footprint while working in collaboration with the state governments as well as private sector developers.Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad disclosed this during a one day visit to Makoko community in Lagos , Nigeria.
The REA Boss who was accompanied during the visit by Engr. Barka Sajou, the Executive Director, Technical Services and other REA team members maintained that.
the agency is committed to alleviating Energy Poverty for Socio-Economic Growth in the rural communities.
He said REA has deployed small and large capacity Solar Home Systems, aligning with the Nigeria Government’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP), Economic Sustainability Plan (ESP), and National Poverty Reduction with Growth Strategy (NPRGS) in Makoko community.

These interventions according to him shown the depth of the REA’s footprint as the Agency continued to equitably deploy impactful, data-driven renewable energy projects in low income communities nationwide.
A total of 1,572 small and large capacity Solar Home Systems (SHS) have been successfully deployed through this intervention, bringing about significant improvements in the lives of rural households and small businesses across the six geopolitical zones, It is noteworthy that female beneficiaries constituted 22% of the total beneficiaries.
For the people of Makoko, this intervention is powering homes, schools and the community healthcare center. The planned scale-up program to be done in conjunction with other stakeholders, including the Lagos State Government, is critical in alleviating the impact of the oil subsidy removal while improving livelihoods in a sustainable manner.
