The Managing Director of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Rt. Hon. Oyetunde Oladimeji Ojo, has reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to delivering affordable housing to Nigerians under its Renewed Hope Agenda.
Hon. Ojo made this declaration on Monday at the FHA headquarters in Abuja while inaugurating the maiden bid process for constructing 7,400 housing units nationwide. Each state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will host 200 units to address the nation’s housing deficit.
The process began with the South-South geopolitical zone, which included Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Cross River, and Bayelsa States. Ojo emphasized that the exercise aligns with the Procurement Act, reflecting FHA’s dedication to probity, transparency, and accountability in public projects.
“This event demonstrates our unwavering commitment to ensuring fairness and integrity. The process is free from interference and guided by principles of good governance to instill confidence in all stakeholders,” he stated.
Hon. Ojo added that the phased approach for the bidding process across geopolitical zones was designed to ensure orderliness, avoid duplication, and foster inclusivity.
“This first phase covers 17 states, with subsequent phases scheduled to follow promptly to maintain momentum and transparency,” he assured.
The bid opening event, which lasted over ten hours, was attended by Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), and other observers. Organizations like CISLAC, Zero Corruption, and Hephzibah Initiative for Peace and Development commended the FHA for adhering to public procurement guidelines.
Contractors present at the session expressed satisfaction with the process and pledged to deliver high-quality housing projects if awarded contracts.
Following the South-South zone, the bidding process for other geopolitical zones, including the North-West, South-East, North-East, North-Central, and South-West, will take place between December 30, 2024, and January 7, 2025.
