The Renewed Hope Initiative, in partnership with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), has concluded the 2025 edition of its Women ICT Training and Empowerment Programme. The closing ceremony took place at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with the First Lady and National Chairman of the Initiative, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, presiding.
In her remarks, the First Lady congratulated the 2025 cohort and encouraged them to embrace continuous learning and innovation, emphasizing that “small beginnings often lead to remarkable achievements.” She announced that similar ICT empowerment programmes would soon be extended to wives of executives and called on participants from all geopolitical zones to leverage their newly acquired skills to build meaningful careers and businesses in the digital space.
Senator Tinubu also commended the NITDA Director-General and his team for expanding digital opportunities for women nationwide.
Earlier, NITDA Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa, CCIE, described the initiative as a direct reflection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda particularly its commitment to economic diversification, human capital development, and digital inclusivity. He reaffirmed NITDA’s drive to build a digitally skilled nation, noting that technology thrives on capable people.
Inuwa highlighted the Federal Government’s National Digital Literacy Framework, which targeted 95% digital literacy by 2030, with a mid-term benchmark of 70% by 2027.
The 2025 cohort completed three weeks of intensive training covering essential ICT skills such as device and software use, content creation, digital marketing, online safety, and basic troubleshooting. Participation has grown steadily over the years, with 35 women trained in 2023, 252 in 2024, and 320 in 2025, bringing the total to more than 600 women.
The DG further disclosed that under the current administration, over 1,000,143 Nigerians have been trained in various digital literacy and skills programmes, including 32,000 civil servants.
He urged the beneficiaries to return to their communities, apply their skills, and mentor at least two to three other women to sustain the programme’s impact.
Participants expressed gratitude to the First Lady and NITDA, noted that the training has equipped them to participate more effectively in Nigeria’s fast-growing digital economy.
