The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Musa Dangiwa, and Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Housing and Habitat, Hon. Abdulmumini Jibrin, have called on Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at bridging the housing deficit and providing affordable homes for citizens.
They made the appeal on Tuesday during the commissioning of Express View Estate Phase I and a shopping complex in Lugbe, Abuja.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Rt. Hon. Oyetunde Ojo, disclosed that under the Renewed Hope Agenda, the federal government has commenced housing projects in 17 states, in addition to those in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). He noted that the Authority, within the last 17 months, had engaged all 36 state governors and secured land allocations across the federation for estate development.
Ojo explained that the Express View Estate occupies three hectares of land, with 50 housing units constructed by BAM Construction Company on 1.5 hectares, while the adjoining shopping complex is designed to serve residents of both the estate and its environs.
Commending state governors for their cooperation, Ojo stressed that the non-politicization of land allocations would go a long way in addressing Nigeria’s housing deficit. He added that the Authority remains committed to ensuring equity and merit in the allocation of houses, regardless of social or economic status.
He further recalled the recent commissioning of Ajoda Estate in Ibadan, assuring that more projects would be inaugurated across the country in line with FHA’s policy of completing all ongoing developments.
Representing the Minister of Housing and Urban Development at the event, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Shuaibu Belgore, reaffirmed the Ministry’s determination to provide affordable and accessible shelter to Nigerians. He said several programs have been launched nationwide to guarantee mass housing delivery in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The Ministry, in collaboration with FHA, will continue to make decisions that put affordable housing within the reach of all Nigerians. Nigeria belongs to all of us, and we must collectively support Mr. President’s vision to address the housing challenge for the first time on a national scale,” Belgore said.
The highlight of the event was the official commissioning of the new estate and shopping complex in Lugbe by the Minister, represented by the Permanent Secretary.
