The House of Representatives will on Monday, November 10, 2025, hold an investigative hearing into the management of over $4.6 billion in health grants received by Nigeria from the Global Fund and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) between 2021 and 2025.
The investigation, initiated by the House Committee on Infectious Diseases, follows the adoption of a motion titled “The Need to Investigate the Over $1.8 and $2.8 Billion Grant Received by Nigeria from Global Fund and USAID from 2021 to 2025 for Response Against HIV, Tuberculosis, Malaria, and for Supporting Resilient and Sustainable Systems for Health (HR. 74/10/2025).”
According to a statement issued by the Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Rep. Akin Rotimi, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, will serve as Chief Host, while Rep. Amobi Godwin Ogah, Chairman of the Committee on Infectious Diseases, will serve as Host of the session.
The hearing, scheduled to hold at Room 231, 2nd Floor, House of Representatives New Building, National Assembly Complex, will bring together key stakeholders, including officials from relevant ministries and agencies, donor partners, civil society organisations, and health professionals.
Rep. Ogah emphasized that the probe aims to promote transparency, accountability, and efficiency in Nigeria’s health financing system.
“This investigation is a necessary step to ensure that every dollar received on behalf of the Nigerian people achieves its intended purpose,” he stated. “We are determined to strengthen accountability mechanisms, enhance health system efficiency, and ensure that donor-funded programs deliver measurable impact on the lives of Nigerians.”
Rep. Akin Rotimi reaffirmed that the outcome of the hearing will contribute to improving oversight frameworks, institutional collaboration, and reinforcing Nigeria’s reputation as a responsible partner in global health development.
Through this process, the House of Representatives reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and effective oversight to ensure that all public and donor funds deliver tangible impact for the Nigerian people.
