In a historic medical intervention, Sakinah Medical Outreach, in collaboration with Medics Across Continents, successfully conducted 160 free surgical procedures at the National Hospital, Abuja. The week-long mission, which ran from Sunday, 16th February to Friday, 21st February 2025, provided life-changing treatments to 94 beneficiaries, many of whom had long-awaited these critical procedures.
The initiative featured a range of advanced and minimally invasive surgeries, including:
Transurethral resection of the prostate
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy
Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL)
Laparoscopic and open varicocelectomy
Endoscopic transsphenoidal pituitary surgery
Herniorrhaphy and excision biopsies, among others.
Medical experts noted that several of these procedures had never been performed in the history of the National Hospital, marking a major milestone in the facility’s surgical capabilities.
Expressing gratitude to supporters and donors, the organizers emphasized the mission’s impact in restoring hope and dignity to the less privileged. “This initiative has not only saved lives but also set a precedent for accessible healthcare,” a statement from Sakinah Medical Outreach read.
With testimonies from beneficiaries set to be unveiled, the success of this mission underscored the urgent need for sustained medical outreach programs to bridge healthcare gaps in Nigeria. Organizers have pledged to continue working towards expanding access to free, high-quality healthcare for indigent patients across the country.
