The National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP) said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State will not only serve as Chief Host during the association’s 2024 National Delegates Convention (NDC), taking place in Lagos from December 3 to 7, 2024, but will be honoured with the prestigious Honourary Fellow of Theatre Arts of the association.
The NANTAP Honorary Fellowship is awarded only to individuals who have made significant contributions to the promotion and development of arts and culture in Nigeria. Governor Sanwo-Olu is being recognised for his unwavering support for the creative industry, his contributions to the infrastructural development of the National Theatre, and other theatres in Lagos State, and his commitment to expanding cultural and artistic opportunities for Nigerians in Lagos State.
This distinguished honour placed Lagos state Governor among the ranks of previous recipients such as Erelu Bisi Fayemi, the former First Lady of Ekiti State, and Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, OON, former Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), both of whom have made remarkable strides in advocating for arts and culture across Nigeria.
Speaking about the award, the President of NANTAP, Mr. Israel Eboh, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for his progressive policies and initiatives aimed at creating a vibrant environment for the arts to thrive. “Governor Sanwo-Olu has demonstrated immense support for the arts and culture sector. His contributions, particularly in the promotion of creative industries in Lagos, deserve commendation,” Eboh noted.
The NANTAP National Delegates Convention (NDC) will bring together theatre practitioners, policy-makers, and stakeholders from across the country to discuss the role of theatre in national development.
The highlight of the convention will be the award ceremony on Saturday, 7th October, 2024, where Governor Sanwo-Olu will be formally inducted as an Honorary Fellow of NANTAP.
