A leading Non Governmental Organization, Save the Consumers Initiative team marked this year World Toilet Day in some rural communities in both Federal Capital Territory and Niger State.
The NGO took the World Toilet Day campaign to Government Arabic Girls School, Diko in Gurara Local Government of Niger state, the students of the school were educated on the need for Sanitation, proper toilet usage, and informed on how to discourage open defecation.
The Executive Director of Save the Consumers Initiative, Dr. Aliyu ilias listed and discussed different types of toilet and enlightened the students on need to be hygienic and avoid Diarrhea,cholera,typhoid fever and other toilet infections.
The students complained the rate at which they were suffering from different types of toilet infection.they however talked on the need for more toilet in the school with an appeal to the relevant stakeholders on the provision of additional toilets in the school. .
During the campaign, Save the Consumers Initiative shared writing materials and world toilet day souvenirs to the students.
The management of the school represented by the Vice Principal (Academics)Hajiya Musa commended the NGO for bringing the campaign to the school. she said ” this is first of its kind since the establishment of the school, we have never had a program like this, thank you for the opportunity”.
The students also expressed their immeasurable joy,and promised to make use of the lecture received from the Save the Consumer Initiative.
Save the Consumers Initiative team were also at Disability Colony, Angwar Guragu, Karimajiji, Abuja on Sunday to educate the community on Open defecation and proper toilet management.
