The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Seme Area Command, has recorded its highest monthly and annual revenue collections since its establishment, generating over ₦15.5 billion in 2025 and marking a major milestone in the Command’s operational history.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the Command disclosed that it generated a record ₦3.63 billion in December 2025 alone the highest monthly revenue ever recorded at Seme. The achievement was attributed to the effective implementation of the One-Stop Shop (OSS) initiative introduced by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, which has enhanced coordination, trade facilitation, and stakeholder compliance at the border.
The development was contained in a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Customs, Tunde Ayagbalo, who noted that total revenue collected between January and December 2025 stood at ₦15,598,945,794.00, representing a 117 per cent increase compared to the ₦7.16 billion generated in 2024.
Beyond revenue generation, the Seme Area Command recorded notable achievements in community engagement and corporate social responsibility. On 11 November 2025, the National President of the Customs Officers Wives Association (COWA), Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi, launched the Green Border Initiative at Seme, empowering members of the COWA Seme Chapter with sewing machines, grinding machines, gas burners, cylinders, and start-up grants.
On the same day, the Comptroller-General of Customs inaugurated a free medical outreach under the Customs Cares Initiative, providing healthcare services to over 1,000 beneficiaries, alongside a tree-planting exercise to promote environmental sustainability.
The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Wale Adenuga, also implemented the Comptroller-General’s directive to reduce checkpoints along the Lagos–Abidjan corridor to the two locations approved by the Federal Government. The Command said the move has significantly eased the movement of legitimate trade, reduced delays, and contributed to improved revenue performance.
On enforcement, the Command intensified its anti-smuggling operations, leading to the seizure in December 2025 of 685 parcels of Cannabis sativa, 495 packs of Tramadol, and 2,000 packs of Super Power Sildenafil tablets (300mg), an excessively high-dosage sexual enhancement drug, through intelligence-led operations, enhanced patrols, risk profiling, and inter-agency collaboration.
Comptroller Adenuga warned smugglers that the Seme border is no longer safe for illicit activities, stressing that the Command is deploying advanced intelligence and technology to intercept and prosecute offenders, while assuring legitimate traders of a safe and efficiently facilitated corridor.
The Area Controller expressed appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs and the Service management for their support, commended officers and men of the Command, sister agencies, security outfits, traditional rulers, community leaders, and the media for their cooperation, and pledged even greater achievements in 2026.
