The Senate Committee on the North Central Development Commission has sanctioned a ₦140 billion budget allocation for the Commission for the 2026 fiscal year.
Senator Titus Zam, Chairman of the Committee, made the announcement following the Commission’s budget defence session at the National Assembly on Monday. He explained that the funding is intended to fast-track development across the North Central region.
According to Senator Zam, the approved allocation will support critical infrastructure projects, security interventions, agricultural development, and humanitarian programs aimed at addressing regional challenges. He emphasized the committee’s insistence on transparency and accountability, noting that the Commission must strictly adhere to budgetary provisions while delivering tangible benefits to communities.
“The intervention agency is expected to prioritize projects that foster economic growth, mitigate displacement caused by insecurity, and enhance access to essential social services,” Senator Zam stated.
The committee also assured stakeholders that it would maintain active oversight to ensure the effective implementation of the 2026 budget, in line with the Commission’s mandate to promote sustainable development in the North Central states.
This approval mark a significant step toward addressing longstanding developmental gaps in the region and supporting initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of its residents.
