The Nigerian Senate has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) in fulfilling its mandate, particularly in the areas of funding, office infrastructure, and diaspora welfare.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Senator Natasha Akpoti, gave the assurance while receiving a delegation from NiDCOM led by its Chairman/CEO, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, during a briefing session in Abuja.
Akpoti pledged that her committee would work towards securing adequate budgetary allocation for NiDCOM, ensuring a more suitable office space, and prioritizing the welfare of Nigerians living abroad.
In her remarks, Dabiri-Erewa provided an overview of the Commission’s activities since its inception, emphasizing its efforts in engaging with Nigerians abroad and addressing their concerns. She sought the Senate’s collaboration on amending the NiDCOM Act and securing a befitting Diaspora Plaza for the Commission’s operations.
The NiDCOM boss also expressed appreciation to the former committee Chairman, Senator Victor Umeh, for his support over the past 19 months.
“NiDCOM looks forward to working closely with the Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs to promote the welfare of Nigerians everywhere,” Dabiri-Erewa stated.
She also presented copies of the National Diaspora Policy, NiDCOM’s past publications, and the 2025 calendar of events to the committee.
