The Office of the President of the Senate has dismissed claims circulating on social media regarding an alleged appointment within a political support group known as Team Akpabio for Tinubu (TAT), described the reports as misleading and unfounded.
Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, MNIPR, the Senate President, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, clarified that he has no affiliation with, nor operational knowledge of, the activities, appointments, or internal affairs of any political support group, including TAT.
Eyiboh explained that such groups are voluntary associations independently formed by their members in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Akpabio, and do not require the approval, endorsement, or authorization of the President of the Senate.
He further dismissed claims attributed to one Hon. Aondoaver Nyakuma, stressed that Senator Akpabio does not know him and has never appointed him or any other individual to any position within any political support group.
The statement also addressed insinuations of political tension, noting that Senator Akpabio maintains a cordial and respectful institutional relationship with the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, and harbours no personal or political dispute with him.
According to Eyiboh, the Senate President does not represent Benue State in the National Assembly and has no constitutional obligation to intervene in intra-state political matters, as his role as President of the Senate is national and institutional in scope.
The Office of the President of the Senate urged the public and the media to disregard any narratives linking Senator Akpabio to claims, appointments, or grievances arising from private political support groups.
