As the present administration mark its second anniversary, Senator Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang, representing Plateau North Senatorial District, has delivered a scathing review of its performance, citing poor budget implementation and growing insecurity across the country.
Speaking to journalists, Senator Pam lamented that the administration has underperformed in terms of fiscal execution. He blamed the Ministry of Finance for the bureaucratic bottlenecks that delay payments to contractors, even after project completion.
“The government is not meeting expectations. Contractors are unable to access their funds due to unnecessary administrative hurdles at the Finance Ministry. This hampers development and weakens public trust,” he said.
Addressing the issue of national security, Senator Pam expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation. He noted that the government must take bold and decisive steps, warning that it appears entangled in unresolved security challenges inherited from the previous administration.
He, however, commended the planned National Security Summit, describing it as a timely intervention that will enable stakeholders to collectively address the root causes of insecurity in the country.
On the removal of fuel subsidy, Senator Pam applauded the boldness of the decision but raised questions about transparency and accountability in the management of funds generated from the policy.
“There must be clear mechanisms to ensure that the proceeds from subsidy removal directly benefit the Nigerian people,” he stressed.
Speaking on the wave of defections sweeping across political parties, the Senator criticized the trend, warned that it undermined democratic principles.
“I will not abandon the political platform that gave me a voice simply for personal gain or to cling to power—unless there is a major internal crisis, which is not the case in my party,” he affirmed.
In the economic sector, Senator Pam called for more robust empowerment programs to uplift the masses and stimulate productivity. He argued that Nigeria has no reason to rely on external borrowing if its abundant resources are well-managed.
“Even when loans are obtained, they are often misappropriated. We must use our natural and human resources judiciously to chart a new course for economic independence,” he added.
