A clarification has been issued dismissing allegations that Seyi Tinubu offered financial inducements to Nigerians in the United Kingdom to mobilise support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his recent state visit.
The statement, released under the banner of the City Boy Movement Diaspora, described as false a publication titled: “BUSTED: Seyi Tinubu Allegedly Paid £500 to UK-Based Nigerians to Rally Support for APC During Tinubu’s State Visit.” According to the group, the claims lack substance and credible evidence.
It noted that while such allegations would ordinarily not warrant a response, the potential to mislead the public and distort discourse made it necessary to address the issue directly.
The statement categorically denied that any payments were made to individuals or groups in the United Kingdom or elsewhere to mobilise political support. It described the allegation as “entirely false, baseless, and without any credible evidence,” insisting that no such incident occurred and branding the report a fabrication.
Providing context, the statement explained that Seyi Tinubu was in London as part of a broader delegation of the City Boy Movement that accompanied the President during the official visit to the United Kingdom. It added that the trip created a legitimate platform for engagement, including interactions between the movement’s leadership and members of its UK chapter.
“These engagements align with ongoing efforts to connect with Nigerians in the diaspora and foster unity and shared purpose,” the statement said.
It further emphasised that Nigerians living abroad retain their constitutional and democratic rights to support leaders of their choice. Any expressions of solidarity during the President’s visit, it stressed, were voluntary and driven by personal conviction not financial incentives, coercion, or inducement from Seyi Tinubu or any government official.
The clarification concluded by reaffirming the commitment of the movement to transparent engagement with Nigerians globally while urging the public to disregard what it termed misleading claims.
