The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, on Tuesday, 23 December 2025, commissioned a fleet of Electric Motor Bikes for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), in a move aimed at enhancing traffic enforcement, intelligence gathering and national security support nationwide.
The commissioning, which took place at the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja, underscored President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening road safety administration and improving inter-agency security collaboration across the country.
Describing the initiative as a “game-changer,” Senator Akume said the electric bikes would significantly improve proactive traffic management, rapid response and crime prevention, particularly in areas where conventional patrol vehicles face operational constraints.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed, described the intervention as timely and strategic, noting that it reflected the uncommon support of President Tinubu to the Corps and its expanding role within Nigeria’s national security framework.
According to the Corps Marshal, the electric motor bikes will be immediately deployed along critical corridors nationwide to enhance traffic control, enforcement patrols, escort duties and special assignments, especially in congested and hard-to-reach locations. He added that the increased speed, mobility and visibility of the bikes would improve traffic flow, rapid response to road traffic crashes and highway decongestion, particularly during festive and peak travel periods.
Mohammed further explained that as criminal activities increasingly occur along road corridors, FRSC personnel have continued to provide early warning intelligence, emergency support and timely communication to sister security agencies. He noted that the new fleet would further strengthen the Corps’ capacity to support ongoing security operations and reinforce inter-agency cooperation in safeguarding lives and property.
He also stated that the deployment of the electric motor bikes aligned with global best practices in sustainable and technology-driven mobility, reflecting the Corps’ commitment to innovation, operational efficiency and environmental sustainability.
According to him, the initiative represents a forward-looking approach to modern traffic management and law enforcement in a dynamic operational environment.
