The Naval Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA) on Monday, 3 November 2025, witnessed a seamless change of leadership as Hajiya Aisha Abbas officially assumed office as the 23rd National President of the Association. She succeeded Mrs Ijeoma Blessing Ogalla, who was represented at the ceremony by the former National Vice President, Mrs Zainab Daniel Akpan, during a formal handing and taking-over ceremony held in Abuja.
In her valedictory remarks, Mrs Zainab Daniel Akpan expressed gratitude to Almighty God for His grace throughout what she described as a successful and impactful tenure. She commended members of the Association for their steadfast support and commitment, describing them as the “pillars and driving force” behind NOWA’s numerous achievements.
Mrs Akpan also lauded the Zonal Coordinators and Zonal Directors for their unwavering cooperation and congratulated the new National President, expressing confidence in her wisdom, compassion, and vision to steer NOWA to greater heights.
She further urged members to rally behind Hajiya Abbas to ensure continued growth and unity within the Association. The outgoing Vice President also appreciated the Naval Ratings Wives Association (NARAWA) for their collaboration and extended heartfelt gratitude to the Immediate Past Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla (rtd), for his fatherly guidance and support, which she said contributed immensely to NOWA’s successes.
In her acceptance speech, Hajiya Aisha Abbas expressed profound appreciation to Almighty God for His mercy and for the honour to serve at what she described as a “pivotal moment” in NOWA’s history. She paid glowing tribute to her predecessor, Mrs Ijeoma Blessing Ogalla, for her exemplary leadership, dedication, and selfless service, noted that her tenure elevated NOWA to new heights and left an enduring legacy.
Hajiya Abbas pledged to build upon the solid foundation laid by her predecessor while upholding the core values and principles of the Association. She assured members of her unwavering commitment to advancing NOWA’s mission, particularly in enhancing the welfare, empowerment, and well-being of Nigerian Navy families.
The new president concluded with the Association’s rallying cry:
“Up NOWA! Sail in Unison!”
