Speaker Abbas hails President Tinubu on 73rd Birthday, commends transformative leadership

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has extended warm felicitations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on the occasion of his 73rd birthday, described him as a visionary leader committed to Nigeria’s progress.

 

In a statement issued on Friday, Speaker Abbas paid glowing tributes to the President, acknowledged his contributions to national development and democracy. He emphasized that Nigeria is fortunate to have a leader of Tinubu’s experience and patriotism at this crucial juncture in its democratic journey.

 

The Speaker commended President Tinubu’s bold economic policies, including the removal of the fuel subsidy and the floating of the Naira, noted that these decisions have started yielding positive results. He also praised initiatives such as the Student Loan Scheme, Consumer Credit Scheme, new national minimum wage, Local Government Autonomy, crude-for-naira deal, and the revitalization of the Port Harcourt Refinery.

 

“As a democrat and patriot, President Tinubu has demonstrated unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s progress. Though initially painful, the policies introduced by his administration are necessary for a brighter future. Prices of foodstuffs are dropping, the Naira is gaining strength, and insecurity is being effectively tackled,” Abbas stated.

 

The Speaker highlighted that under Tinubu’s leadership, the economy has recorded significant growth, citing National Bureau of Statistics data indicating a GDP increase of 3.2% in the last quarter of 2024. He also lauded the administration’s achievements in security, claimed that violent crimes and insurgency have reduced by over 30% due to improved coordination among security agencies.

 

“As we have already started witnessing, these courageous decisions are paying off. The sacrifices made and tough choices taken are now showing tangible benefits, restoring confidence in our economy and security,” Abbas added.

 

He further noted that President Tinubu’s choice to mark his birthday with special prayers underscores his humility and reliance on divine guidance. He called on Nigerians to join in prayers for the President and the nation.

 

The Speaker reiterated the commitment of the 10th National Assembly to working harmoniously with the Executive for the benefit of all Nigerians.

 

He wished President Tinubu many more years of good health and service to the nation.
