Thousands of people in Zaria trooped out to the streets to join the Emir of Zazzau, Amb. Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, for the sallah durbar, which is the traditional horse riding precession as part of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D, who is a prince in the emirate and holds the traditional title of Iyan Zazzau, was one of the those that participated at the event.
The Zazzau Emirate is known for its rich culture and tradition, entrenched hundreds of years ago.
The durbar hold a day after Eid-el-Fitr in the emirate is known as the Hawan Bariki, and is attended by the top traditional titleholders in the emirate.
The Speaker participated with many people in his entourage at the event.
The Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, who represented Governor Uba Sani, was in attendance.
The colourful event was also attended by 31 district heads and 43 other titleholders from the emirate.
It took more than three hours for the durbar to come to an end, with the Speaker arriving at his family house (Gidan Iya Abdullahi) at about 2.pm.
There were displays by horse riders and various entertainers during the event.
