The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed a fatal road traffic crash involving multiple vehicles in Ibadan, Oyo State, warned motorists against the dangers of excessive speeding.
The crash occurred on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at about 1:30 p.m. along the Challenge–Gate axis at Bere, within the jurisdiction of the Oluyole Unit Command.
According to the FRSC, the incident involved six vehicles, including a DAF tanker belonging to BOVAS and five commercial tricycles. A total of 11 persons were involved in the crash, with three sustaining injuries and two others a male and a female adult confirmed dead.
FRSC operatives responded swiftily, evacuating the injured victims to nearby hospitals, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at Adeoyo Hospital morgue. The agency also cleared the wreckage to restore normal traffic flow, with the tricycles moved to Mapo Police Station and the tanker recovered by the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the crash was caused by excessive speeding, which led the tanker driver to lose control and collide with the tricycles.
Reacting to the incident, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, expressed concern over the rising number of speed-related crashes across the country. He described speeding as a leading cause of fatal road accidents, noting that it reduced reaction time and increases the severity of collisions.
He cautioned motorists against reckless driving, stressing that no journey is worth the loss of lives. The FRSC boss also urged commercial and heavy-duty vehicle operators to maintain safe speeds and exercise maximum control, especially in busy urban areas.
The Corps further called on fleet operators to strengthen driver training and enforce compliance with speed limits, while advising tricycle operators and other vulnerable road users to remain vigilant and avoid risky manoeuvres.
The FRSC reiterated its commitment to road safety enforcement and public awareness to curb preventable crashes on Nigerian roads.
