The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has reaffirmed its commitment to driving nationwide digital inclusion with the successful hosting of the maiden Digital Literacy Stakeholders Workshop in Abuja.
Held under the theme “Building Sustainable Partnerships and Pathways Towards Achieving 95% Digital Literacy Level by 2030,” the two-day workshop brought together stakeholders from government agencies, private sector organizations, civil society, development partners, and academia.
The workshop provided a strategic platform for forging national collaboration, aligning strategies, and building robust data systems to measure digital literacy progress. A central focus was achieving 70% digital literacy by 2027 and 95% by 2030, in line with the National Digital Literacy Framework (NDLF) launched in 2023.
Participants engaged in insightful discussions centered on consolidating digital literacy efforts, promoting efficiency, and ensuring no Nigerian is left behind. Key issues addressed included stakeholder mapping, leveraging innovation to reach rural communities, and the urgent need for a unified data management system to guide policy and implementation.
At the conclusion of the workshop, stakeholders made several resolutions, including:
Establishing a centralized digital literacy data framework hosted by NITDA
Classifying stakeholders as Providers, Enablers, and Funders for clearer engagement
Prioritizing women, youth, persons with disabilities, and underserved communities
Developing scalable, sustainable digital literacy programmes tailored to Nigeria’s realities
Institutionalizing the workshop as an annual event for progress review and collaboration
In a major highlight of the event, a National Digital Literacy Working Group was inaugurated to provide technical oversight for the implementation of the digital literacy roadmap. The committee will be chaired by David Daser, President of the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), and will comprise representatives across the digital ecosystem.
The workshop underscored NITDA’s determination to deliver on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly as it relates to digital empowerment, economic transformation, and national development.
