The National Human Rights Commission has emphasized the significance of collaborations and partnerships with various stakeholders, government agencies, civil society organizations, institutions and the general public to achieve its set of proposed strategic priorities for the period of 2024 – 2027.
The Executive Secretary National Human Rights Commission Dr. Tony Ojukwu made the remarks during a stakeholders meeting on the proposed NHRC Strategic Plan 2024 – 2027 at the Commissions Headquarters in Abuja.
According to the Human Rights boss, the Commission will partner with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and the Public Complaints Commission because of their presence in all the local government areas across the country, their offices in these locations will serve as collation point for complaints on human rights violations he said.
Chief Ojukwu explained that the four-year Strategic Plan aimed to guide the Commission in carrying out its mandate and fulfill Nigeria’s commitment to International Human Rights principles, including those enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and various regional and international conventions.
The Human Rights boss also stated that, the key objectives of the Plan to be undertaken between 2024 – 2027 are informed by the Thematic Areas of Focus of the Commission, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG),the National Development Plan 2021 -2025 of the Federal Government of Nigeria, and the Policy Thrust and 8 Point Agenda of the current administration.
Ojukwu further asserted that “We want to improve on the key areas we didn’t pay attention to in 2019 and then look at some emerging trends in the area of Human Rights that we need to give priority to”.
