Summit University, Offa, held its 9th Matriculation Ceremony on Tuesday, formally inducting 194 new students into its academic community. The event, which took place at the Alhaja Adiat Abegbe Makanjuola Lecture Theatre, featured a blend of tradition, inspiration, and institutional milestones.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun Musa Aibinu, in his address, congratulated the 103 male and 91 female matriculants, describing the occasion as a defining moment in their academic and personal lives. He noted that the students had joined a university driven by excellence, integrity, and innovation.
“This is not just a formal rite of passage,” he said. “It marks the beginning of a journey that will shape your future and prepare you to contribute meaningfully to society.”
Professor Aibinu highlighted the rapid growth of the university since its inception in 2017. He announced that, beyond its two pioneer colleges, Summit University has now added three new colleges: the Kola Balogun College of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Engineering, the College of Innovation and Computing Technology, and the College of Postgraduate Studies. Students from these new colleges participated in matriculation for the first time, signaling the institution’s rising profile as a centre for technological and academic advancement.
The Vice-Chancellor also outlined the university’s unique curriculum that blends academic learning with real-world skill development. Students will engage in courses on financial literacy, ethical leadership, sustainable energy, entrepreneurship, digital technologies, cultural heritage, and global citizenship, all grounded in faith-based values.
He cautioned the new students against indulging in social vices, stressing the importance of upholding the university’s code of conduct.
“As you take your oath today, remember that it comes with responsibilities,We maintain high moral and academic standards, and we expect nothing less from you.”Prof Aibunu stated.
He expressed gratitude to the university’s leadership, staff, and host community, and paid tribute to the Olofa of Offa, His Royal Majesty Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi, Esuwoye II, for his consistent support. He also acknowledged notable sons and daughters of Offa for their contributions to the university’s growth.
Professor Aibinu concluded by urging the students to embrace the university’s vision and strive to “shine like the sun,” in line with its motto.
