On February 6, 2020, the Independent National Electoral Commission announced the de-registration of 74 political parties. The Commission’s Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, at a media briefing held in Abuja, attributed the action to the Fourth Alteration of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
