A tenant has allegedly sold his aged landlord, Oladepo Asaolu to kidnappers for one million naira in Osun state.
Recall, Asaolu, who was an indigene of Ora-Igbomina, Ifedayo Local Government Area of Osun State, and the Babaloja of the ancient town, was said to have been declared missing on October 5, 2022, after a motorcyclist came to his house in Ora-Igbomina around 5 am and took him to an unknown place.
But days after his disappearance, officers of the Osun State Police Command discovered the decomposing body of the aged landlord in Akisa Forest, Ora-Igbomina.
It was gathered that one of the tenants of Asaolu, allegedly sold him to some kidnappers for N1 million.
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, in a statement in Osogbo on Monday, October 11, 2022, confirming the development said; “The son of Chief Oladepo Asaolu reported to the police that on October 5, his father left his house at Kereja, Ora-Igbomina, with an unknown commercial motorcyclist and did not return after four days.
“Upon investigation, the arrest of the motorcyclist, Sunday Johnson, was made and he confessed that Asaolu was killed after being sold to kidnappers for one million naira by one of his tenants, and dumped in the forest.
“The DPO led operatives and vigilantes in search of Akisa Forest, Ora-Igbomina, where the victim was found decomposing.
The arrest of Sunday Johnson led to the arrest of three others who have confessed to their involvement in the abduction and killing of the victim. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Bureau for further action,” the statement said.
In a related development, one of the farmers abducted in Iseyin, Oyo State, on Saturday, October 8, 2022, has been killed.
Recall that the Oyo State Government had confirmed the abduction of four farmers in Iseyin on Saturday.
The government said it had deployed some security agents to the town to ensure the release of the farmers.
It was learnt that the kidnappers had demanded ransom for the victims before one of them was killed.
It was also gathered that the body of the yet-to-be-named farmer has been retrieved by the security agents.
The remains of the deceased has been kept for identification and burial by his family.
The body was dumped at the settlement, causing panic among families and friends of other kidnapped farmers.
