Senator Abubakar Sani Bello led Committee on Foreign Affairs has said that, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s nominee,Prof Abdullahi Saleh Usman as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of National Hajj Commission (NAHCON) is a square peg in a square hole, who is going to reform the Commission and turn things around
Saleh who have been in acting capacity at the Commission appeared before the Committee on Tuesday 08/10/2024 to be screened for confirmation.
Because of his rich curriculum vitae(CV), the Committee decided not to take him through the rigours of the screening exercise but moved a motion that he should take a bow, which was seconded and subsequently adopted.
In a post screening exercise interaction with journalists, Senator Abubakar Bello said that document don’t lie, as the nominee have distinguished himself in his career path.
He said that the Committee having completed their assignment of screening will compile their report and recommendation and forward it to the committee of the whole before Thursday.
Giving assurance of the confidence that they have in the nominee,Sen. Sani said that although sometimes there are surprises, but with Prof. Abdullahi, there is no room for error.
On the issue of service delivery, Sen. Sani said that the Senate will step up its oversight function to ensure that travel agencies do not short changed unsuspecting Nigerians, but give them value for their money.
He pledged the Senate’s commitment to give all necessary support to the Hajj Commission and the Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board to deliver on their mandate.
