President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate release of N2 billion for the construction of resettlement homes for victims of the recent flood disaster in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.
Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima made this known on Tuesday during a visit to Mokwa, where he conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the damage caused by the flooding and commiserated with the affected residents.
The Vice President, who conveyed President Tinubu’s condolences, announced that the President had directed urgent improvements to the drainage infrastructure in the area to prevent future occurrences. He also disclosed that 20 truckloads of food supplies would be deployed immediately through relevant Ministries and Agencies to cushion the effects of the disaster on affected communities.
In his capacity as Chairman of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), Senator Shettima further pledged to instruct the company’s Managing Director to facilitate the provision of a 14MVA transformer to improve electricity supply in Mokwa.
While addressing community members, the Vice President assured them of the Federal Government’s commitment to their welfare and pledged sustained intervention to support recovery and resilience in the region.
