President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a credible, secure, and verifiable national identity management system, describing it as a critical pillar for achieving Nigeria’s developmental goals.
Speaking at the State House during the official launch of the NINAuth App, a digital mobile-based identity authentication application developed by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), the President said the new platform underscores his administration’s resolve to leverage technology for efficiency, transparency, and accountability in governance.
According to him, the new app will soon be adopted by all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for staff and data verification.
“Today’s official launch of the NIMC NINAuth App heralds a remarkable day in our nation’s digital public infrastructure journey as Africa’s largest identity database. This innovation marks another milestone in our pursuit of a digitally empowered Nigeria,” President Tinubu stated.
He emphasized that under his Renewed Hope Agenda, the government is modernizing digital infrastructure to remove bureaucratic bottlenecks and ensure inclusive access to essential services, regardless of location or background.
“A credible and inclusive National Identity Management System is fundamental to our national development goals. It supports financial inclusion, strengthens social welfare delivery, enhances our security architecture, and ensures accurate population data for evidence-based planning,” the President said.
President Tinubu added that the NINAuth App would place Nigeria among the ranks of technologically advanced nations, providing a secure environment for citizens and residents to access services and opportunities while maintaining high standards of data protection and national security.
He called on Nigerians to embrace the innovation, describing it as “a bridge connecting our people, our institutions, and our aspirations for a more prosperous nation.”
“Together, we are building a nation where every identity counts and every citizen must matter,” the President concluded.
Earlier in her remarks, the Director General of NIMC, Engr. (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, explained that the NINAuth App will eliminate multiple data ownership and enable real-time authentication of individuals and businesses.
She revealed that NIMC has enrolled 126,717,316 individuals, with about 25 million registered in the past two years alone, and an average of 1.3 million verification hits daily.
Also speaking, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, described the initiative as a forward-thinking solution to national challenges, commending the President for his vision.
“Your Excellency, you are solving tomorrow’s problems with technology. Identity is not just an administrative requirement; it is the backbone of governance, national security, and service delivery,” Tunji-Ojo stated.
