President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of renowned Islamic scholar and spiritual leader, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, who died on Thursday at the age of 101.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the late leader of the Tijjaniyya Muslim Brotherhood as a towering figure in Islamic scholarship whose life was defined by teaching, preaching, and unwavering commitment to moral values.
The President said the death of Sheikh Bauchi is “monumental,” noting that the cleric’s influence extended far beyond his immediate family and followers to the entire nation.
President Tinubu also recalled the blessings and moral support he received from the revered scholar ahead of the 2023 presidential election, described him as a fatherly figure and a voice of moderation.
“Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi was a teacher, a father and a voice of moderation and reason. As both a preacher and a notable exegete of the Holy Qur’an, he was an advocate of peace and piety. His death has created a huge void,” the President stated.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the Tijjaniyya community across Nigeria and beyond, urged them to honour the scholar’s memory by upholding his legacy of peaceful coexistence, strong faith, and compassion to humanity.
