President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated renowned fiscal policy expert, Taiwo Oyedele, as Minister of State for Finance, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
The nomination was conveyed in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Oyedele replaced Doris Anite-Uzoka, who has been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State her third ministerial assignment under the current administration.
Until his nomination, Oyedele served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he led efforts to overhaul Nigeria’s tax administration and fiscal framework. A native of Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, the 50-year-old economist and accountant brings over two decades of professional experience in tax advisory and public policy.
He holds a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University. He has also completed executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.
Oyedele spent 22 years at PwC, rising to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. He currently serves as a professor at Babcock University and as a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
If confirmed, Oyedele is expected to strengthen the administration’s fiscal reform agenda and support ongoing efforts to enhance economic management and revenue mobilisation.
