President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to strengthening engagement with Nigerians in the diaspora, recognizing their strategic role in national development.
Unveiling of Diaspora Home & Abroad Housing Platform at National Diaspora Day celebration in Abuja by the Representative of President Bola Tinubu, Senator George Akume, Secretary To the Government of Federation.
Speaking through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, who represented him as Special Guest of Honour, the President assured diaspora Nigerians of the government’s sustained efforts to create an enabling environment for their investments, participation, and reintegration into the nation-building process.
The event, which marked the 2025 National Diaspora Day (NDD), held in Abuja on Thursday, brought together key stakeholders from government institutions, the diplomatic community, civil society organizations, and the Nigerian diaspora community from across the globe.
As part of activities to deepen diaspora inclusion, Senator Akume unveiled the ‘Home & Abroad Housing Platform’, an initiative aimed at making property ownership more accessible to Nigerians in the diaspora. The platform is designed to remove the risks and barriers often associated with acquiring homes in Nigeria from abroad, ensuring transparency, affordability, and accountability.
Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. (Dr.) Abike Dabiri-Erewa,in her welcome remarks, applauded the resilience and contributions of Nigerians in the diaspora. She noted that over 20 million Nigerians outside the country continue to make invaluable impacts in the areas of remittances, skills transfer, diplomacy, and innovation.
“Today is a celebration of our diaspora citizens who have continued to shine on the global stage, excelling in diverse fields,” she said. “This administration recognizes your worth and will continue to implement policies that support diaspora engagement as a key component of our development agenda.”
Chairman, Senate Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organizations, Senator Aniekan Bassey, in his goodwill message, emphasized the need for stronger diaspora institutions and platforms to harness the full potential of Nigerian citizens abroad.
“Identification is not just for formalities; it is for leveraging minds for national transformation. Nigerians in diaspora must be seen as equal partners in nation-building,” Senator Bassey noted. He further explained the committee’s focus on promoting business development policies and diaspora education platforms, while advocating policies that tackle discrimination and boost tourism, innovation, and capital repatriation.
Similarly, Chairman, House Committee on Diaspora Matters, Hon. Sir Tochukwu Okere, underscored the resilience, innovation, and patriotism displayed by Nigerians abroad, stated that their stories continue to inspire hope and progress back home.
“On behalf of the House of Representatives, we celebrate you. Whether in medicine, technology, sports, finance, or public service, Nigerians in the diaspora have become global symbols of excellence. The government remains committed to connecting you productively with the homeland,” he added.
Acting Head of the ‘Empowered Future Rising’ (EFR), George Atuma, also delivered a symbolic address, pledging allegiance to partnerships that support global peace, multilateralism, and national development through diaspora collaboration.
In her closing remarks, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa expressed appreciation to all partners, including Charter House Lagos, Home & Abroad Housing Platform, Coronation Group, and Centenary City,and other partners for their support toward the success of the 2025 celebration.
“On behalf of myself, the management and staff of NiDCOM, and over 20 million Nigerians in the diaspora, I thank you all for being part of this historic gathering,” she concluded. “We look forward to a more impactful National Diaspora Day celebration in the years to come.”
The occasion also featured cultural displays, panel discussions on diaspora investments, Philanthropy, and goodwill messages from ambassadors, development partners, and other stakeholders.
