President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s determination to address youth unemployment in Nigeria by prioritizing skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development.
Speaking on Tuesday in Abuja at the opening of a three-day National Conference on Skills Acquisition, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of bridging existing gaps that hinder the development of vocational skills and employment opportunities for Nigerian youths.
The event, organized by The Progressive Institute (TPI), brought together policymakers, stakeholders, and experts to deliberate on vocational training, entrepreneurship, and strategies to foster sustainable national development.
Represented by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, President Tinubu described the conference as “a fundamental contribution of our party in governance”. He highlighted the necessity for synergy among federal, state, and private sector interventions to maximize resources and streamline efforts.
The President assured that tackling youth unemployment would be a top priority in the coming year and expressed optimism about receiving a comprehensive report from the conference to guide actionable policies.
In his remarks, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, stressed that the conference aligns with the APC-led government’s development agenda. He called on the media to play a supportive role in promoting economic diversification and skill acquisition initiatives.
Similarly, Dr. Lanre Adebayo, Director General of The Progressive Institute, commended Ganduje’s unwavering commitment to youth development and his role in advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration.
The conference underscored the pivotal role of vocational skill acquisition in empowering youths, fostering entrepreneurship, and driving economic growth, in line with President Tinubu’s vision to tackle unemployment and build a resilient economy.
