President Bola Ahmed Tinubu today presented the 2025 Federal Budget, titled “The Budget of Restoration: Securing Peace, Rebuilding Prosperity,” to a joint session of the National Assembly. The budget mark a significant step in his administration’s commitment to driving Nigeria towards economic stability, national security, and sustainable growth.
Addressing lawmakers, President Tinubu outlined key achievements from the past year, including a 3.46% GDP growth in Q3 of 2024, an increase in Nigeria’s foreign reserves to nearly $42 billion, and a positive trade surplus of 5.8 trillion naira. He reiterated that the country’s economic recovery is well underway, driven by deliberate fiscal policies and the ongoing reforms that have started to yield results.
The 2025 Budget proposed a total expenditure of 47.90 trillion naira, with a targeted revenue of 34.82 trillion naira. A significant portion—15.81 trillion naira—is allocated to debt servicing, while the projected budget deficit stands at 3.89% of GDP. President Tinubu also projected a decline in inflation from 34.6% to 15%, and improvements in the exchange rate from 1,700 naira to 1,500 naira per US dollar.
The President highlighted that national security remained the bedrock of progress, with increased funding for the military, paramilitary, and police forces to enhance the protection of the nation’s borders and ensure internal stability. Infrastructural development also takes center stage, with continued investments in transport and energy projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and Sokoto-Badagry Highway.
On human capital development, the budget outlines substantial investments in education, health, and social services, including a 402 billion naira allocation for health sector infrastructure and 826.90 billion naira for education, aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s future workforce.
Tinubu called for collective action from all Nigerians, emphasizing that the challenges of insecurity, corruption, and economic downturn can be overcome through unity and determined effort. The President assured the National Assembly and the nation that the 2025 Budget laid the foundation for a brighter, more prosperous Nigeria.
In concluding his address, President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to lead the nation through these transformative years, ensuring that Nigeria remains on course for lasting peace, prosperity,and progress.
