A support group, the Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV), has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for donating his annual salaries to the Nigerian Armed Forces, described the gesture as a strong demonstration of his commitment to national security and the welfare of military personnel.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Chukwudi Enekwechi, and Secretary, Segun Ogedengbe, the group said the President’s action reflected a deep sense of compassion and personal concern for the challenges facing the nation’s security agencies.
TMV noted that the donation formed part of activities marking the President’s 74th birthday, during which he also announced the establishment of a dedicated welfare fund to support wounded service members, as well as the families of fallen heroes.
The group further disclosed that the President directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to create a special account to cater for injured personnel, widows, dependents, and children of deceased military officers.
According to the group, the President’s decision to forgo elaborate birthday celebrations in favour of a more reflective and impactful initiative demonstrates statesmanship and a strong sense of duty to the nation.
It also praised the President for calling on private sector players, wealthy individuals, members of the National Assembly, and other well-meaning Nigerians to contribute to the welfare fund.
TMV stated that the gesture sends a clear message that the sacrifices of Nigerian military personnel will not be forgotten, and that their service will be matched with dignity, care, and institutional support.
The group further applauded the President for setting an example by committing all his annual salaries since assuming office in 2023 to the welfare fund, describing it as a rare act of leadership and patriotism.
It added that the initiative reinforced confidence that those who serve the country, both in active duty and in sacrifice, will be properly recognized and supported by the government.
