The Niger State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Obed Nuhu Nana, has emphasized the critical role of traditional institutions in promoting security, unity, and peaceful coexistence among communities.
Hon. Nana stated this during his turbaning and coronation as Dan Masani of Wyiku (Barangoni) in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where he was honoured by traditional authorities.
He described the elevation and strengthening of traditional districts as a strategic approach to addressing insecurity, noting that grassroots leadership remains essential in fostering harmony and stability within communities.
The Commissioner commended the Federal Capital Territory Administration, under the leadership of Nyesom Wike, for its efforts in upgrading traditional institutions, describing the initiative as a deliberate and commendable step toward preserving cultural heritage while enhancing local governance structures.
According to him, empowering traditional rulers will further strengthen community engagement, improve conflict resolution, and support security efforts at the grassroots level.
Hon. Nana expressed gratitude to His Royal Highness, Danlami Ibrahim Nana, the District Head of the area, for the honour bestowed on him, describing the recognition as a significant milestone in his personal and public life.
He pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him, assured that he would work closely with other traditional leaders to carry out his responsibilities with diligence, integrity, and a strong commitment to the wellbeing of the people.
The colourful ceremony featured traditional displays, presentation of certificates, and a reception attended by dignitaries from within and outside the FCT.
