The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration of being disconnected from the harsh realities faced by Nigerians. In a statement released on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP criticized Tinubu’s recent media chat, described it as proof of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government’s insensitivity to the country’s economic struggles.
The party challenged President Tinubu to personally experience the hardships endured by citizens by traveling from Abuja to Lagos by road and visiting markets to witness their plight firsthand.
According to the PDP, the sudden removal of the fuel subsidy without effective mitigating measures has plunged Nigerians into unprecedented poverty. The party highlighted soaring inflation at 34.6%, the naira’s steep devaluation to N1,700 per dollar, and an unemployment rate of 40% as evidence of the administration’s failure.
“The President’s admission that Nigerians are suffering due to the government’s inability to prevent the smuggling of petroleum products across borders is an indictment of the APC’s poor governance,” Ologunagba said.
The PDP also raised concerns about the absence of accountability for funds supposedly saved from the subsidy removal and slammed the administration’s failure to invest in critical sectors such as agriculture, energy, and small businesses.
The party described Tinubu’s claim that road travel is now safer as disconnected from reality, citing ongoing banditry, kidnappings, and poor road conditions. It urged the President to interact directly with citizens rather than relying on “fabricated government statistics.”
