Troops of 1 Brigade under the Joint Task Force Operation Fasan Yamma, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), have intercepted a large cache of arms in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, Zamfara State.
The operation, conducted on January 27, 2025, was based on credible intelligence about suspected arms dealers linked to networks in the Niger Republic. Acting swiftly, the troops launched a covert mission to intercept the suspects along the Kaura Namoda-Zurmi road.
During the operation, the suspects attempted to escape by diverting their vehicle into a bush path but were forced to abandon it following engagement by the troops. A search of the vehicle revealed the following items:
2 PKT machine guns
9 AK-47 rifles
13 magazines
171 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition
9 rounds of PKT ammunition
Meanwhile, security forces have intensified efforts to apprehend notorious terrorist Bello Turji, who remained at large. Turji is reportedly evading capture by frequently relocating between hideouts.
In a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Centre, Operation Fasan Yamma, the public was assured of ongoing efforts to apprehend Turji and dismantle his network.
“We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of our communities. We urge the public to support our operations by providing credible information that can aid in our efforts,” the statement read.
The success of this operation underscored the commitment of security agencies to combating arms proliferation and terrorism in Zamfara and beyond.
