Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) under Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled coordinated attacks launched by terrorists on several military locations in Borno State, neutralising multiple insurgent leaders and fighters during intense overnight battles.
The attacks targeted troops’ locations in Konduga, Marte, Jakana and Mainok between about 10:30 p.m. and 3:00 a.m., according to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the operation, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba.
He said the terrorists attempted to overrun the military positions in a coordinated assault but were met with strong resistance from alert troops who held their ground despite the intensity of the attacks.
According to the statement, troops quickly mounted a well-coordinated response involving simultaneous flanking manoeuvres supported by reinforcement teams drawn from Sectors 1 and 2 of the operation. The counter-operations forced the attackers into disorganised retreats after suffering significant casualties.
“In some isolated cases where sections of the defensive perimeter were temporarily breached, troops swiftly counter-attacked and fully regained control of their positions,” the statement said.
During the fierce engagements, several insurgent leaders, including key commanders known as Amirs, were neutralised while a number of fighters were also eliminated.
The military said although some structures within the bases were damaged during the intense firefights, all the locations remain firmly under the control of troops of Operation Hadin Kai.
In support of the ground forces, the Air Component carried out multiple precision air strikes against fleeing terrorist elements and other hostile positions overnight. The strikes reportedly neutralised additional insurgents and significantly degraded their fighting capability.
Troops are currently conducting follow-up exploitation operations across the affected areas, with efforts ongoing to recover bodies of the terrorists as well as weapons and other combat equipment abandoned during the fighting.
The military, however, confirmed that some soldiers lost their lives during the engagements, including an officer who was said to have led his troops from the front during the battle.
The statement noted that the attacks reflect the growing desperation of terrorist groups operating in the North-East as military pressure continues to intensify across the theatre.
Despite the assaults, the military said troops remain firmly in control of the battlespace and are determined to sustain operations against insurgent groups threatening peace and security in the region.
