Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled a multi-front attack by ISWAP terrorists on a forward operating base in Mandaragirau, Borno State, inflicted heavy casualties on the insurgents.
The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, was met with a coordinated response by ground forces, supported by the Air Component of the operation. Military sources said the troops engaged the attackers decisively, forcing them into a disorderly retreat.
During the encounter and subsequent pursuit along the terrorists’ withdrawal routes, about 38 insurgents were neutralised. Eight bodies were recovered at the scene, while intelligence from local sources indicated that over 30 additional മൃതദ bodies were found along the Garin Mallum–Garin Gajere axis extending into the Timbuktu Triangle.
Security forces also recovered seven AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, four RPG bombs, and other assorted ammunition abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
Despite the intensity of the attack, the military recorded no fatalities among its personnel. However, one Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle was hit by rocket-propelled grenade fire, leaving some personnel injured. The wounded have since been stabilised.
The military noted that the scale of losses suffered by the insurgents sparked jubilation among local communities, describing the development as a reflection of sustained operational dominance in the region.
Troops have continued exploitation operations in the area to recover more weapons and bodies, as well as to consolidate gains.
The Military High Command commended the troops for their gallantry and resilience, urged them to maintain momentum in ongoing counter-insurgency operations across the North-East.
