The University of Ibadan has announced the death of Professor Abdulganiy Olayinka Raji, a Professor of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering and a former Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Professor Raji passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, December 19, 2025, at his residence in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
Beyond his academic career at Nigeria’s premier university, the late professor rendered national service as INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ekiti, Ogun and Osun States, where he was noted for professionalism and dedication to duty.
Family sources said Janazah prayers will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the Ogbomoso Central Mosque, Oja’agbo, by 11:00 a.m., after which he will be buried at a Muslim cemetery in Ogbomoso.
Professor Raji is survived by his wife, children, friends and extended family.
The University of Ibadan community, colleagues and former associates have continued to pay tribute to the late scholar and public servant, describing his death as a significant loss to academia and the nation.
May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus.
