The Obafemi Awolowo University Muslim Graduates’ Association (UNIFEMGA) has congratulated the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on his election as Chairperson of the World Customs Organization (WCO).
Adeniyi, an alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University, made history on Saturday, June 28, 2025, when he emerged as the first Nigerian Comptroller General to be elected Chairman of the WCO during the concluding session of the organization’s 145th/146th Council Meeting held in Brussels, Belgium.
In a statement signed by its National President, Engr. Mohammed Buari, UNIFEMGA described Adeniyi’s election as a testament to his track record of excellence, innovation, and global relevance in customs administration.
“On behalf of our members across the globe, we heartily congratulate CG Bashir Adeniyi on this well-deserved appointment,” Engr. Buari stated. “His emergence as Chair of the WCO is not surprising, given his commitment and visionary leadership since assuming office as Comptroller General.”
UNIFEMGA expressed confidence that Adeniyi would bring his exemplary leadership to bear on the global stage and continue to make Nigeria proud. The body also offered prayers for his continued success, asking Almighty Allah to guide him in discharging his responsibilities effectively.
“We remain immensely proud of his accomplishments and pray that Allah (SWT) grants him wisdom and strength as he takes on this global assignment,” the statement added.
