The University of Ilorin Alumni Association has strongly condemned the actions of Dr. Wale Fashakin for impersonating the President of the Association, described his conduct as “shameful and unacceptable.”
In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olorunsuwa Elijah Ola, the Association revealed that Dr. Fashakin has been parading himself as the President at various public engagements. The statement highlighted his unauthorized visit to the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Mrs. Kemi Nanna Nandap, as well as his recent purported inauguration of a Board of Trustees for the Association.
The Association cautioned stakeholders and the public against engaging with Dr. Fashakin, reiterating that his tenure ended abruptly in 2021 following a resolution by Congress. The resolution was passed due to allegations of gross abuse of office, high-handedness, and a breach of the Association’s trust and constitution.
“For the record, a Caretaker Committee managed the affairs of the Association for three years until August 24, 2024, when a legitimate election was held. It must be emphasized that Dr. Fashakin no longer holds any official position within the Alumni Association,” the statement read.
The Association further called on the Nigerian Police and the Department of State Security Service (DSS) to investigate Dr. Fashakin’s actions, warning that his impersonation could disrupt the peace and unity of the Alumni community.
The statement concluded with a strong appeal to all stakeholders to disregard any engagements or communications from Dr. Fashakin on behalf of the Association.
