Venora Holdings Limited has entered into a strategic partnership with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council Correspondents’ Chapel, aimed at strengthening media capacity building and improving the welfare of journalists.
The Managing Director of Venora Holdings, Mr Ayodeji Torey, gave the assurance while receiving members of the NUJ FCT Correspondents’ Chapel during a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja. He pledged sustained collaboration and support targeted at enhancing the professional and working environment of journalists.
Speaking during the visit, Chairman of the NUJ FCT Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Felix Ojo, commended Mr Torey for his philanthropic disposition and strong commitment to staff welfare, describing his leadership style as exemplary.
According to Ojo, Mr Torey has consistently demonstrated uncommon dedication to human development through competitive staff remuneration, health insurance schemes, empowerment programmes, vacation sponsorships, and the promotion of sportsmanship within his organisation.
He noted that journalists often operate under constrained funding conditions, making welfare initiatives critical to productivity and professional excellence. Ojo recalled that in December, the chapel organised a programme titled “Opportunities for Collective Bargaining and Unionism in Place of Welfare” as part of efforts to improve members’ occupational wellbeing.
The chairman also highlighted some of the pressing needs of the chapel, including the acquisition of a bus to ease members’ mobility during official assignments and professional engagements.
As part of the visit, the Correspondents’ Chapel presented an Award of Excellence in Workplace Practice to Mr Torey, commending Venora Holdings for fostering an enabling work environment that promotes employee growth, meaningful rewards, and overall wellbeing. Ojo described the company’s workplace culture as worthy of emulation across corporate Nigeria.
Receiving the award, Mr Torey expressed surprise and appreciation, dedicating the honour to his team for their commitment and behind-the-scenes efforts.
“This award truly came as a surprise. I sincerely appreciate the Nigeria Union of Journalists for this recognition,” he said, adding that the honour would further encourage the company to do more in supporting human development.
He reaffirmed Venora Holdings’ readiness to collaborate with the NUJ FCT Correspondents’ Chapel on initiatives that would improve journalists’ working conditions and professional output, stressing that the recognition belonged to his entire team whose efforts make such achievements possible.
