The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has recorded a high level of compliance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive prohibiting the deployment of police personnel for VIP escort and guard duties.
A special enforcement team was constituted to monitor adherence, and on 6 December 2025, field operations were carried out across major locations in Lagos State, including the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, the domestic wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, and other strategic points. The exercise revealed “satisfactory and commendable” compliance, with no unauthorised deployments observed and no arrests made.
According to CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Force Public Relations Officer, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has reaffirmed the NPF’s commitment to implementing the presidential directive. Hundeyin noted that the withdrawal of VIP escorts allowed police personnel to be redeployed to core policing duties focused on crime prevention, public safety, and the protection of lives and property.
The NPF assured the public that enforcement of this policy will continue nationwide without fear or favour, urged citizens to support the Force as it work toward a more professional, efficient, and citizen-centered policing system.
